Withers has expanded its Hong Kong offering with the addition of an international family team led by partner Sharon Ser.
Ser joins the firm after more than 20 years as a partner with Hong Kong-based Hampton Winter and Glynn. She brings a team that includes associates Rita Ku, Deanna Tam, and Jacqueline Mak, will join the firm via its associated Hong Kong office Facey & Co.
Facey & Co was established in August by Withers partner Guy Facey. Withers intends to merge the two firms in January when the restrictions on it practising domestic law will be lifted. Under Hong Kong regulations only firms that have been operating in the jurisdiction for three years can run a local firm.
Ser will head Withers domestic family team following the merger. She holds a number of high profile posts in the region and is currently vice-chairman of the Hong Kong family law executive committee.
She said the move was prompted by client demands for international matrimonial advice. “Withers’ ability to offer cross-jurisdiction family law advice is truly unique and is something I’m very excited to be able to offer my clients as their needs become increasingly international,” she said.
Last month Withers sent London-based partner Patrick Hamlin, a former Treasury Solicitor lawyer, to lead its Hong Kong litigation practice. Hamlin has officially joined Facey & Co, but in January will transfer back to WIthers.
