Weil boxing clever

“I am just a poor boy, though my story’s seldom told.”

These aren’t words you often hear in relation to a Weil Gotshal lawyer but hey, it’s not every day that the US firm hires itself a boxer.

Into the ring steps Adam ’I’ll restructure you’ Plainer (see story), an insolvency specialist and white collar boxer extraordinaire on the side.

Plainer is joining Weil from Jones Day’s London office where he’s been going the distance as head of the firm’s restructuring group since 2003.

His arrival marks the second big name hire for Weil’s London office in recent weeks following finance partner James Hogben’s arrival from Ashurst. It’s not known whether Hogben brought his boxing gloves with him.

As for Plainer, for whom the phrase “punches above his weight” could have been coined, he was one of Jones Day’s highest-rated London partners with property group Connaught, greetings card chain Birthdays and Kroll all counting as recent victories.

Now the power puncher has, by a unanimous decision, swapped corners.
