Travers Smith is reviewing its relationships with US firms in response to its current best friends expanding their London presence.
The firm confirmed it is looking at its ties with firms and is aiming to expand its American footprint to locations outside New York and Washington DC in response to client demands.
It follows moves by its current relationship firms, Goodwin Procter, Proskauer Rose and Ropes & Gray, to bulk up their London practices, but a firm spokesperson insisted that Travers would not be severing its ties with these firms.
The spokesperson said the firm was taking a close look at Miami as an important link with the BRIC economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China, and that the firm had decided it was important to source the right foreign lawyers at the right price.
The firm operates a network of relationship firms but has no exclusive ties to them.
