SJ Berwin has made up seven new partners, an increase of one on last year’s number that has halted a run of two years of falling promotion numbers.
The City firm promoted six new partners last year, eight in 2008 and a record 16 in 2007.
The focus of this year’s round has shifted back to SJ Berwin’s London office, with five based in the capital – two more than last year – and one each in Frankfurt and Madrid.
Three of the new partners are in the corporate group, although only one of those – Patrick Deasy – is based in the City. Two of the associates sit in the tax practice, with one each from employment and IP.
Senior partner Jonathan Blake (pictured) said: “These are first rate lawyers who excel both in legal creativity and outstanding client service.
“The coming years are full of opportunities and SJ Berwin is well placed with such talented individuals on board.”
The new partners at SJ Berwin are:
Giles Bavister, tax
Patrick Deasy, corporate
Stephen Pevsner, tax
Carl Richards, employment
Chris Thornham, IP
Boris Kläsener, corporate
Gonzalo Olivera, corporate
