Shearman & Sterling favours London in promos round

Shearman & Sterling has promoted four lawyers to partners in its London office, thought to be the most ever in a single round.

The promotions – in leveraged finance, financial regulatory, bankruptcy and M&A – are part of a nine-partner promotions round at the US firm.

Globally Shearman has elected nine counsel and associates to the partnership in four offices: London, New York, San Francisco and São Paulo.

The London promotions follow that of high yield associate Apostolos Gkoutzinis, who was elected to the partnership this May.

London managing partner Nick Buckworth said the five promotions this calendar year not only reflected the strength of the current crop of associates but also Shearman’s commitment to growing its City office, “organically and through selected laterals”.

Shearman’s nine new partners are: Jessica Delbaum, a lawyer in the antitrust practice area in New York,; Thomas Donegan, a lawyer in the global financial regulatory practice area in London; New York-based investment funds specialist John (Sean) Finley III; Peter Hayes, a London-based finance lawyer; Dana Kromm in San Francisco, an M&A specialist; Jeremy Kutner in London, also M&A; New York litigator John Nathanson; Solomon Noh, a bankruptcy lawyer in London who transferred from the New York office earlier this year; and Mathias von Bernuth, a lawyer in the capital markets practice area in São Paulo.
