Scott wins race to succeed Gold as Herbies chief

Jonathan Scott

Scott, who is a member of the firm’s governance board, will take over on 1 May 2010 when incumbent David Gold finishes his five-year term.

Gold commented: “My congratulations go to Jonathan and I wish him well. With Jonathan as senior partner and David Willis as managing partner the firm’ll be in very good hands when my term as senior partner comes to an end.”

Scott has built his entire career with Hebert Smith, joining as a trainee in 1979 and becoming a partner in 1988. In 1989 he set up the firm’s Brussels office, returning to London in 1994. Scott became head of the EU/competition practice in 1996, stepping down from the role at the end of 2007.

He was also the firm’s graduate recruitment partner from 1997 until 2000.

Scott beat rival candidates Allen Hanen, who heads the firm’s CIS practice, and litigator Tim Parkes, who pulled out of the race after a first round of voting at the end of last week (16 December 2009).
