Reynolds Porter Chamberlain is the latest firm to open in Singapore on the back of the hire of Barlow Lyde & Gilbert (BLG) insurance and reinsurance partner Mark Errington.
It follows the revelation that Clyde & Co is to form an alliance with Singaporean firm Clasis LLC to enable it to launch an onshore offering after its merger with BLG (24 October 2011).
Singapore has become a popular jurisdiction for domestic firms looking to get into the South East Asia markets.
Most recently Mayer Brown JSM opened an office there having transferred construction and engineering head Kevin Owen and banking and finance partner Alastair MacAulay there from its Hong Kong office (30 June 2011).
Withers is also planning major investment in the region and is in advanced talks with a local law firm to take office space in Singapore for a starting initiative comprising two Withers partners (25 July 2011).
It is RPC’s first foray into the international markets. Managing partner Jonathan Watmough said it was “one of a number of locations” the firm is considering.
