US firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman has opened an office in Abu Dhabi, its first in the Middle East, on the back of increasing work from the region.
The firm is relocating three partners from Washington to Abu Dhabi to lead the new venture. David Cynamon is a litigation partner, while Charles Peterson and James Glasgow both specialise in energy work.
The firm is also recruiting at associate and support staff level.
Pillsbury has recently worked for a number of Middle Eastern and international clients on projects and finance work in the UAE and neighbouring countries such as Egypt.
Lawyers in Abu Dhabi will focus on energy, infrastructure and finance.
The Abu Dhabi office is Pillsbury’s fourth international outpost. The firm also has offices in London, Shanghai and Tokyo.
Pillsbury is the second major firm to open in Abu Dhabi since the summer. Linklaters relocated partners from Dubai and New York to establish itself in the country earlier this year (7 July 2011). A number of other firms have strengthened their local offices with partner hires or moves this year.
