Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has announced plans to launch in Munich after acquiring the German practice of US firm Holme Roberts & Owen.
The new office will consist of two partners, two of counsel, four associates and two paralegals. The partners are corporate specialists Jens Röhrborn and Jörg Ritter.
Explaining the decision to open in Munich, Orrick managing partner Ralph Baxter said: “Because Munich is the leading market for industrial and technology companies in Germany, and the hub of German’s private equity and venture capital communities, we believe this is yet another important step in our strategic plan to create the world’s leading technology and emerging companies practice.
“Orrick has a unique position in the market in that we not only have one of the top emerging company practices in Silicon Valley, but we also have significant global capabilities that our competitors don’t.”
The Munich base will complement Orrick’s existing offices in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. Röhrborn added: “The German emerging company market is making a strong rebound and this combination with Orrick will allow us to take advantage of the firm’s platform, reputation and strong brand to take our practice to the next level.”
In December Orrick sealed an alliance with Vietnam firm Hanoi firm LVN & Associates (8 December 2010).
