McDermott Will & Emery has become the latest international firm to forge an alliance in Turkey, choosing health law as its route into the country.
The US firm has signed a preferred provider relationship with local firm Fora & Sanli, an Istanbul-based commercial firm with experience in regulatory and corporate health work. The arrangement kicks off with immediate effect.
International healthcare M&A head John Callahan said the firm had identified a “void” in Turkey for health-focused M&A capability. The Turkish healthcare sector is currently of interest to foreign and domestic investors, who are taking advantage of opportunities presented through leveraged buy-outs and PPP deals.
Fora & Sanli name partner Banu Fora welcomed the arrangement and said it would help both firms’ clients to access an “unparalleled” level of expertise in the healthcare sector.
Turkey has been a jurisdiction of focus for a number of international firms over the past year, with firms entering through alliances in 2011 including Baker & McKenzie (27 October 2011) and Clifford Chance (11 April 201). In December Allen & Overy (5 December 2011) said it was setting up a foreign law practice in Istanbul.
