Bristows has hired the former head of the IP and technology department at Maclay Murray & Spens as a partner in its commercial group.
Fiona Nicolson, the chair of the Law Society of Scotland’s accreditation panel for IP and a Maclay’s partner resigned from her former firm in March. She started work at Bristows today after quitting the Scottish firm on 31 May.
Bristows joint managing partner Pat Treacy said Nicolson’s experience in acting for innovative and technology rich companies, along with her international profile, would help the London firm further develop its IP offering to its technology clients.
A spokesperson for Maclays wished Nicolson well in her new role with Bristows and added that her decision to leave had been based on personal considerations.
“The bulk of Fiona’s IP practice was Scottish-based and, with Fiona’s full cooperation, we consulted fully with clients to ensure the service they received from the firm was seamless during the period of change,” the spokesperson said. “Succession is already firmly established, with IP partner Alison Bryce having worked closely with many of these clients over the last few years.”
