Lewis Steinberg, who until now has been a managing director and global head of the strategic solutions group within UBS’s investment banking group, will join the magic circle firm’s New York office as partner.

Before joining UBS Steinberg was a partner at New York elite firm Cravath Swaine & Moore, where he was co-head of the tax department.

Steinberg will co-head Linklaters’ US practice alongside US litigation head Larry Byrne.

Byrne said: “Lew’s move is great for us. He’s a great lawyer and will be a great asset to our firm. Linklaters is going to continue building on the platform it has developed in the US in litigation, corporate and finance.”

The firm’s New York office now has 150 lawyers on the ground including 34 partners. Earlier this week The Lawyer reported that the magic circle firm promoted one new partner in New York out of a global total of 18 (6 April).
