Linklaters has hired litigation star Christa Band from Herbert Smith.
Band, who played a pivotal role in the litigation arising out of Vodafone’s bid for Mannesmann in 2000, joins Linklaters as a partner under London head of litigation Michael Bennett.
She will start work at the magic circle firm in December and has now left Herbert Smith to begin a period of gardening leave.
Band had been at Herbert Smith for 16 years and a partner at the firm for 13 years.
The rare lateral hire for Linklaters comes after the firm retained its place on the Barclays litigation panel last month.
Linklaters backed Barclays in litigation against Bear Stearns last year, a case which cost the firm its relationship with JPMorgan (13 February 2008).
The Linklaters litigation department suffered the loss of a partner in June, when Mark Humphries left to set up his own litigation boutique firm in Bristol (1 June 2009).
