Lawrence Graham (LG) is set to launch an office in Singapore after forging an alliance with a local firm.
LG is still waiting to receive local licenses, but will tie up with PK Wong & Associates, a full service corporate and commercial firm focusing on M&A, dispute resolution and restructuring.
LG’s former senior partner Penny Francis will move out to Singapore to spearhead the launch, while private capital partner Nick Jacob and corporate partner Geoff Gouriet will continue to split their time between London and Singapore. LG is also looking to hire more lawyers for the office.
LG has had business interests in South East Asia for around 20 years, in particular advising private capital clients and specialising in family governance, tax, trusts and estate planning.
“Singapore’s an important centre for wealth management and we have a large number of longstanding private capital clients across South East Asia,” said Jacob. “This alliance with a local firm will enable us to provide local law advice and enhance our ability to look after clients and offer more services.”
Managing partner Hugh Maule added: “A number of our clients are investing in and expanding in Asia and have chosen Singapore as their base. We already have a strong client base across the region, particularly with our private clients, and an alliance was the next logical step.
“The new office will also complement our corporate services provided by our Dubai office and our work with clients in India.”
PK Wong is a five-partner firm that was established in 2004 by Wong Peng Koon and Mark Wong.
Earlier this week Singapore’s parliament amended its Legal Profession Act, making it easier for barristers to appear before local courts and allowing foreign law firms to invest in and share profitswith local firms (15 February 2012).
