Latham bolsters Milan base with addition of Degli Occhi e Associati

Latham & Watkins has filled a gap in its Italian capabilities by bolting on litigation boutique Degli Occhi e Associati.

The team of five lawyers led by Cesare Degli Occhi will join Latham’s Milan office. Degli Occhi, the most senior of the group, will be an of counsel while Antonio Distefano will be counsel.

Degli Occhi previously worked alongside Latham’s Italian founding partners Andrea Novarese, Maria Cristina Storchi, Fabio Coppola, Tommaso Amirante and Simone Monesi at Bonelli Erede Pappalardo, before splitting off to set up Degli Occhi e Associati in 2006.

Latham added the Bonelli team to its ranks in 2007. The US firm has not been able to offer clients commercial litigation advice until now.

Italian managing partner Coppola said litigation was important for the firm’s local offering.

“This is something that clients quite often ask us to take care of and it’s also strategic in terms of synergies with corporate, M&A, restructuring and antitrust activities,” he told The Lawyer.

Coppola added that Latham was now able to provide advice on most key areas of law in Italy, although the firm might look at adding a tax capability in the future.
