Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed a new Paris managing partner, replacing Antoine Colonna d’Istria who steps down after four years in the role.

Commercial arbitration and litigation specialist Elie Kleiman – who is a member of the firm’s dispute resolution practice in Paris – will become managing partner in Paris on 1 November 2011 and will continue his client work in tandem with his new management role.

Colonna d’Istria will return to fee-earning in the firm’s tax department.

Elie Kleiman joined Freshfields in August 2000 as a partner in the firm’s international arbitration and litigation practice. He specialises in both complex dispute resolutions and international arbitration. Elie will continue his current client-facing work alongside his new role.

In a statement, Colonna d’Istria said: “After four years as managing partner working to run, develop and improve the Paris office alongside a fantastic team of fellow partners, I am pleased to hand over to my successor Elie Kleiman; an experienced and talented individual. He will continue leading our teams and developing new projects with my full support.’

Before joining Freshfields in 2000, Kleiman was a partner at Jeantet & Associés, where he was head of the firm’s New York office.
