Freshfields Hong Kong corporate partners Kay Ian Ng and Calvin Lai led on the deal, one of the most valuable of 2009.
Hong Kong capital markets partner Benita Yu led the Slaughters team that advised UBS, which acted as sole global coordinator on the IPO and listing of the company’s H shares. UBS was also joint bookrunner, joint sponsor and joint lead manager alongside Credit Suisse, CICC and Goldman Sachs.
Other advisers included King & Wood, which acted for China Pacific on Chinese law, Sullivan & Cromwell for the underwriters on US law, and the Commerce & Finance Law Offices, which advised the underwriters on Chinese law.
The deal completed a busy year for Freshfields’ Hong Kong team, which bagged mandates on each of the five largest IPOs in the jurisdiction over the last 12 months, with Metallurgical Corporation of China’s $5.2bn capital raising in September leading the way.
