Former Linklaters partner takes advisory role at Obelisk Legal

Linklaters’ former emerging Europe, Middle East and North Africa managing partner Nick Eastwell has joined Obelisk Legal Support as an advisory board member.

Eastwell will join Obelisk, which provides temporary support to in-house teams and law firms, on 1 April and will advise the company in a strategic capacity.

Eastwell left Linklaters in 2009 and became chief advisor on City law firms to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (18 October 2010), as well as a consultant to Linklaters spin-off firm in Eastern Europe, Kinstellar (19 October 2009). He continues in these roles as well as in the position of senior adviser to headhunters SR Search (1 March 2010).

Eastwell’s appointment completes Obelisk’s board, which includes professor Stephen Mayson, barrister Peter Ling, Reed Smith partner Jeremy Glover, and Paul Basger, a partner at corporate boutique Gunnercooke.

Obelisk Legal was established in 2010 and is aimed at providing a way for lawyers who are also parents to work flexibly.

In a statement, Eastwell said: “In a demanding modern legal world work/life balance is increasingly on the agenda and young working mothers face the challenge of combining child rearing with practising law.

“In addition, with overcapacity in the market, there’s a growing need to be able to supply flexible resources to match the peaks and troughs of clients’ demand.

“I see Obelisk Legal as a new dynamic and welcome entrant to the profession with a focus on these pressure points and offering, with its reservoir of high quality young, mostly female, lawyers, a practical solution.”
