Finally, some good news for SJ Berwin: its main competitor for funds work, Clifford Chance, is this morning working out how to deal with the departure of star partner Jason Glover (see story)
Glover, who is easily the best-known funds lawyer in the London market, has resigned to join Simpson Thacher & Bartlett’s UK operation where he will be reunited with former CC colleague Adam Signy.
With M&A star Guy Norman’s relocation to Dubai (see story) and Simon Cooke to Hong Kong, this leaves London corporate head Simon Tinkler with a rather more depleted team than he had at the beginning of the year.
Of course, Clifford Chance will be betting that its institutional clout with funds clients will prevail. But Glover was instrumental in building up the magic circle firm’s funds team, working for clients like Actis, Barclays Private Equity, Duke Street Capital and Permira.
His hastily-appointed successor looks like having a busy summer shoring up those relationships. There could be tussles ahead.
