Dewey & LeBoeuf has strengthened its Latin American practice after hiring a corporate and securities team from Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy.
Michael Fitzgerald has joined the firm as chairman of the Dewey’s Latin American practice and corporate securities groups, and will be global co-chair of its corporate finance practice.
The corporate and securities lawyer was previously chairman of Milbank’s global securities, global corporate and Latin America practice groups.
Fitzgerald arrives along with partners Taisa Markus, Joy Gallup, Arturo Carrillo and a team associates.
Dewey chairman Steven Davis said in a statement: “The arrival of Michael and his team marks an exciting addition to the firm and our transactional practice.
“They are one of the premier legal teams practising across Latin America and their addition will significantly enhance our service to clients around the world with interests throughout the region.”
Fitzgerald has previously represented a wide range of underwriter and issuer clients in debt and equity financing transactions and M&A activities and has particular expertise in cross border work involving Latin America.

Taisa Markus joins as vice chair of the firm’s corporate securities group. She focuses her practice primarily on cross-border securities offerings, cross-border finance and M&A, and general securities law matters.
Dewey & LeBoeuf has been active in Latin America for over 20 years but is yet to open an office in the region.
