Because They’re Perth it

Squire Sanders & Dempsey’s global partnership has given its blessing to the firm’s union with the vast majority of Minter Ellison’s Perth office (see story).

The 80-strong Perth outfit will adopt the moniker Squire Sanders Australia: not exactly the catchiest name in the world, but it does what it says on the tinny.

It turns out the Minters lawyers joining Squire Sanders had been wooed by a number of anonymous suitors before settling on the US firm. As well as Minter Ellison asking the Perth partners to financially integrate with the rest of the firm, a number of international firms apparently approached the office with tie-ups on their mind.

In the end, the Perth partners chose Squire Sanders because of its large global network, according to office managing partner John Poulsen. The good news for them is that the firm’s network is probably about to get bigger, with Squire Sanders keen to expand in Asia Pacific.
