Angel face

Milbank is going all guns blazing to beef up in the City. Today’s news that the New York heavyweight has hired Ashurst’s head of restructuring Nick Angel is a statement of intent (see story).

And what’s more, it follows a similarly bold swoop several months ago, that time for DLA Piper litigation partner Julian Stait (see story).

In an interview with The Lawyer over the summer, Stait told us that his reasons for joining Milbank were only partly about building a disputes practice to mirror what the firm has in the states.

It was also part of a long-term strategy to build a wide contentious practice with financial services clients – and restructuring – at its core.

Looks like he knew something we didn’t. At least then.

Angel’s hire should give wings to the firm’s ambitions of ramping up its restructuring practice in the City.
