All’s well that Eastwells

It can be hard for some people to work out what to do with themselves when they quit private practice.

Former Linklaters big hitter Nick Eastwell, however, is not one for sitting around in his pants watching Countdown. Since leaving the hallowed halls of Linklaters almost exactly a year ago, Eastwell has been busying himself as a consultant to the firm’s eastern European spin-off Kinstellar, while also putting in a few shifts at headhunters SR Search.

Either the man decided he wasn’t busy enough or he really can’t face mowing that lawn, because Eastwell has now added a third string to his bow. Apparently he’ll act as a bridge too.

Sadly, the image of commuters trampling over those famous red braces as brave Nick stretches himself impossibly over the Thames does not match the reality. Instead he will be the SRA’s new chief adviser to City law firms (see story) – a position set up after last year’s Smedley report criticised the regulator’s ability to police the City (see story).

With three jobs on the go at once, Eastwell could be in danger of becoming the law’s answer to Peter Mandelson. Maybe there’s a book in the offing…
