Pinsents boost insurance practice with Clydes hire

Pinsent Masons has hired Clyde & Co partner Manoj Vaghela along with legal director Chamika Hand  in its insurance group.

Vaghela was a contentious insurance partner at Clyde & Co. He works on complex multi-party and multi-jurisdictional insurance disputes arising out of Bermuda Form, clinical trials, cyber liability, professional liability, management liability, directors and officers liability, commercial crime, trade credit and product recall.

He is a specialist on product safety and is working with a consortium of leading academics and research scientists on a project for the European Union investigating the safety aspects of nanotechnology. Hand was a legal director in the insurance team at Clydes and will transfer over to Pinsents with Vaghela.

Pinsent Masons head of insurance Nick Bradley said he hoped the appointments would assist the firm in attracting more high-profile, complex and cross-border disputes work.

Bradley has been making a series of investments into the firm’s London-based international contentious claims practice since his appointment as head of insurance from Lawrence Graham last summer (18 June 2012)

Pinsent Masons and McGrigors merged on the 1 May 2012 (6 February 2012) and since then has been bulking up in key practice areas of financial services, infrastructure, energy and advanced mechanical technology. The firm was recently won a spot on the new Aviva panel, to advise the insurer’s UK regional and London offices alongside Addleshaw Goddard (30 August 2013)

Earlier this week, Clydes added three new partners and a number of lawyers to its Australian offices, a year after the firm opened there (10 September 2013).
