Watch out, watch out, there’s a cyber criminal about. But what’s this? Privacy lawyer extraordinaire Keith Schilling has decided to do a Lone Ranger and is riding to the rescue.
As we exclusively report today, the man whose clients include Kate Winslet and JK Rowling is relaunching his firm as a legal and investigations business that will integrate risk management and IT security. Big Keith is targeting the growing market in privacy and reputation management as he pursues the idea that corporate reputations are increasingly tied to understanding the way social media and IT security work. “One of the things CEOs are most worried about is data breaches and cyber-hacking,” says Schilling. His firm’s new ABS vehicle, which includes Schillings IT Security, is now ready to don the fedora, take a slug of rye and catch those pesky outlaws red handed.
You’ll find more on cyber security in this week’s predictions feature, which includes the prophecy that within the next five years at least one big firm will have been brought down by a cyber security leak.
You might also want to check out the latest pithyism (we’re now coining new words for use in this brave new world) from K&L Gates’ Peter Kalis, who argues that to “stave off extinction” more UK firms will append themselves to brand-sharing vehicles such as Swiss Vereins in hopes of creating a simulation of an international law firm: “Such a convoluted adaptation in nature brought us the platypus, a mammal that lays eggs, but, in fairness, these firms would presumably argue that laying an egg is at least a sign of life.”
