Telecoms giant BT has launched a review of its legal process outsourcing (LPO) provision, The Lawyer can reveal.
Group general counsel Dan Fitz said the LPO review kickstarted about three months ago.
BT currently works with US-headquartered LPO provider United Lex, outsourcing about 30 per cent of its UK commercial work to the company.
Fitz said BT was looking at its LPO set-up, adding: “With an LPO you have to get in and understand their processes, more than with a law firm. It’s a much more involved process.”
He said the company was looking at several providers.
The review follows BT’s announcement of a new ‘network’ of external legal advisers earlier this year (25 March 2013). The roster of over 140 firms includes regular counsel Bird & Bird, CMS and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer as well as specialist media firms and regional outfits in the UK and worldwide.
This year has also seen BT successfully apply for an ABS licence (4 March 2013). Its ABS, BT Law, will provide claims handling services to other corporates running large fleets and is an extension of the in-house service BT currently provides for its own fleet of engineers’ vans and other vehicles.
