Germany’s Noerr triumphed at The Lawyer’s European Awards which were held in glittering Monaco last night, with the firm named European Law Firm of the Year. Noerr edged out competition from Italy’s Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners, which came highly recommended in the category, to win the award in what was a night categorised by close calls among worthy firms.

Held at Hotel Hermitage overlooking Monte Carlo’s harbour and hosted by the BBC’s Mishal Hussain, the awards ceremony and gala dinner had a James Bond theme, with Pepeliaev Group collecting the Russia and CIS Law Firm of the Year award to the sounds of From Russia With Love.
According to sources at the event, some lawyers took the theme to its logical conclusion by heading to the casino for a night cap and perhaps a high-stakes poker game with the world’s criminal elite, though more likely just a flutter on the one-armed bandit.
In attendance at the awards were top names from the European legal profession, including Gianni founding partner GianBattista Origoni and Wolf Theiss founding partner Andreas Theiss, whose firm collected the gong for best firm in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
Well done to all the winnners.
