Morgan Lewis has appointed Pinsent Masons partner Nick Thomas as a partner in its London labour and employment practice.
Thomas starts work at Morgan Lewis today (8 October). His appointment brings the number of lawyers in Morgan Lewis’s employment team in the City to 10.
Team head Matthew Howse said the hire built on the firm’s strong practice in the US, adding that it was not a corporate support unit but a stand-alone employment practice.
“We’re number one in America – frankly we want to be number one here,” he said.
As well as Howse, the team includes partner Tracy Evlogidis, who joined Morgan Lewis from Speechly Bircham in February with two associates (6 February 2012). Evlogidis focuses on immigration while Thomas advises on all areas of employment law including discrimination claims, restructurings and other employee disputes.
Morgan Lewis’s employment clients include major banks, pharmaceutical and technology companies. This year advice has included acting for a team of employees leaving QBE Insurance.
Morgan Lewis has made a number of lateral hires this year in London, including three litigators from collapsed firm Dewey & LeBoeuf led by that firm’s former London managing partner Peter Sharp (3 May 2012).
