Peters & Peters and BCL Burton Copeland stand by for Saatchi, Lawson showdown

Peters & Peters has been thrust into the limelight again after high-profile client Charles Saatchi told a London court that his ex-wife Nigella Lawson was so ‘off her head’ on drugs that she allowed two assistants to splurge £300,000.

Italian sisters Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo have turned to London-based Janes Solicitors to defend the case with fraud partner Richard Cannon leading the case. 4 Breams Buildings’ Karina Arden has been instructed as counsel for Francesca Grillo and Argent Chambers’ Anthony Metzer QC for Elisabetta.

Metzer requested that the case against the Grillo sisters be thrown out on because Mr Saatchi, a key prosecution witness, had conceded that he believed their defence in an email, which is that Lawson allowed them to spend the money when she was “off her head” on drugs.

Peters & Peters partner Jonathan Tickner is instructed on civil matters for Saatchi and white collar crime partner Neil Swift advising on the criminal case. Peters & Peters has acted on a number of high-profile cases in recent years, partner Keith Oliver is currently bringing a case against Formula 1 tycoon Bernie Ecclestone for the former owner of F1 Constantin Medien.

Lawson has turned to BCL Burton Copeland heavyweight Ian Burton.

The court refused the application meaning that both Saatchi and Lawson will have to give evidence and be cross examined in open court.
