Commenting on the publication of the Lord Davies report into the role of women in UK boardrooms, John Heaps, chairman at Eversheds, said this is a critical phase for gender diversity in UK boardrooms.
He said: ‘Thanks to the Davies Report, the 30% Club and many other initiatives, this subject has received huge attention in the last three years resulting in a positive upward trend. While the argument, to a large extent, has been won, that progress is still not translated into a “business as usual” state where all candidates, whatever their gender, are assessed on equal terms. It is that residual bias that now requires attention.
‘Furthermore, organisations would do well to investigate the highly effective, yet under-used, role that sponsorship can play in continuing to address the gender balance that persists on UK boards.’
