Field Fisher Waterhouse has further bulked up its finance group with the hire of Simmons & Simmons partner Philip Abbott.
Abbott, whose practice has a strong focus on funds finance, real estate finance and restructuring, will start his new role at FFW at the end of March.
FFW also hopes to leverage Abbott’s expertise in emerging markets lending, in which he specialises partiularly in Turkey and the Middle East. Abbott’s time at Simmons was largely spent in the City, but between 2008 and 2010 he relocated to Dubai to head up the firm’s Middle Eastern finance practice (12 January 2009).
The hire continues FFW’s efforts to grow its finance team, with three other partner hires in the past year. Last summer, the firm recruited Alex Campbell and Robin Spender – formerly senior associates, the pair joined as partners from their former firms, Berwin Leighton Paisner and legacy SJ Berwin (20 June 2013).
Luke Whitmore, previously of counsel at Baker & McKenzie, also joined the finance team’s partnership ranks last October.
Abbott’s hire will bring the firm’s tally of finance partners up to 11.
Managing partner Michael Chissick said: “We’ll probably bring in a maximum of one more partner his year – for now we’re focusing on integration and bedding in.”
FFW’s imminent merger with eight-partner Manchester boutique Heatons is set to go live on 1 April 2014 (7 February 2014).
