Schillings has announced that it has won the inaugural ABS of the Year award at the 2014 Lawyer Awards.
The annual Lawyer Awards — now in their 20th year and this year hosted by Joanna Lumley — celebrate the highest accomplishments in the UK legal profession and recognise innovation and brilliant execution across all legal sectors.
The win follows Schillings’ decision to move to ‘alternative business structure’ (ABS) status in repositioning itself as a multidisciplinary firm combining risk consultancy and cyber security with law to help defend reputations and deal with the threats of the modern digital world. The result has been a reinforcement of Schillings’ reputation defence credentials, with revenue at the firm up 30 per cent.
In explaining the decision to award Schillings the status of being the first-ever ABS of the Year, the judging panel cited the firm’s innovative use of its ABS status to complement an award-winning privacy and defamation legal offering with risk consulting and cyber security, in helping clients counter and contain threats to reputation — wherever they come from.
Chris Scott, partner at Schillings, said: ‘Winning the inaugural ABS of the Year award is a fantastic achievement and a great endorsement of the bold and innovative steps our whole team has taken in redefining what it means to be a law firm. When coupled with the judges’ positive feedback, it is clear validation that Schillings continues to operate at the cutting edge when it comes to solving new age problems in the age-old concepts of privacy and reputation.’
