Iberian firm Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira has announced that corporate partner Antonio Baena is replacing Iñigo Rubio as London managing partner.
Baena’s move is aimed at strengthening the firm’s M&A and corporate finance practice in the City. Corporate finance associate Ignacio Buil is joining Baena in London.
Finance partner Rubio took up the reins of the London office in 2010 (7 September 2010). He is returning to Cuatrecasas’s Madrid office.
Baena has advised on a number of high-profile transactions, including advising the banks when the Spanish government privatised the state lottery in 2011 (6 July 2011). In London he will be tasked with advising international clients and investors on their entry into the Iberian market, with a focus on M&A and corporate finance.
The firm is also planning to strengthen its Chinese presence with the addition of a second corporate partner to its team in the region.
Last year Cuatrecasas entered into an alliance with fellow European heavyweights Chiomenti, Gide Loyrette Nouel and Gleiss Lutz (26 November 2012). Chiomenti has since moved into empty space in Gide’s London offices, while Cuatrecasas remains in its own space in nearby Tower 42 (7 February 2013).
Cuatrecasas bucked the local trend last year with a slight turnover rise to €245.6m (7 February 2013), despite tough economic conditions in Iberia.
