By now nobody should need telling that clients aren’t happy – a big understatement – and are equally dissatisfied with the old way of doing things. But the Big Shake-up in the UK legal market is changing things faster than ever before (a theme that will be examined in detail in next week’s The Lawyer Management Guide to Change).
While lawyers typically might not be the first to embrace change, it’s increasingly looking like the ones that do will emerge ahead of the game. And Addleshaws, which believes no other firm has carried out such a comprehensive legal process mapping exercise, looks to be at the head of the pack right now. In short, it has put the lid on the received wisdom still prevalent in certain segments of the market that elements of premium work can’t be broken down, commoditised and in part farmed out to paralegals.
Word is that the UK’s number one proponent of legal market change, Richard Susskind, popped in to Addleshaws a few weeks ago to check out its new process-mapping master plan.
“His jaw dropped,” says a firm insider.
