South West firm Temple Bright has scooped a three-lawyer team from Nabarro to launch an energy and climate change practice.
The technology-focused firm has added clean energy projects partner Tom Bainbridge, projects partner Louisa Cilenti and associate Sandy Abrahams to launch the new practice area.
Bainbridge has led on several of Nabarro’s high-profile green energy mandates in recent years including the first wind farm in Jordan. He also advised a 2CO Energy on the Don Valley carbon capture and storage project
Cilenti led Nabarro’s infrastructure finance team and its alliance energy group and worked with Bainbridge on the Jordan wind farm.
The three lawyers take Temple Bright’s London headcount to 11, following the hire of legacy SJ Berwin outsourcing head David Meredith last month. The firm moved to the Silicon Roundabout 15 months ago in a bid to hone in on technology clients. It operates a chambers model in which lawyers ‘eat what they kill’ and make autonomous decisions about billing and working flexibly.
Until now the firm has focused on three sectors comprising food and drink, technology and real estate. However it is now adding clean energy to its stable and founder Tim Summers said it was also considering a move into other sectors including financial services.
The team is thought to have been lured by the potential to decide their own pricing models and client interactions.
Cilenti said: “The Temple Bright model fundamentally changes the way that lawyers can interact with their clients. With no imposed management hierarchy or billing targets, we are released to focus solely on supporting our clients’ objectives and building common goals with them, in an industry we care about deeply.”
Temple Bright was established in Bristol in 2010 and now has 27 partners based in Bristol and London.
Summers said: “We feel that the recruitment of a high profile team from a major City firm, just over a year since launching in London, is a significant endorsement of Temple Bright’s innovative approach.
“Our model means that senior lawyers can work with their clients in an efficient way, and the clients get hands-on involvement from experts, with certainty on fees.”
