On 27 March 2013, the European Commission presented proposals for a modernisation of Council Regulation No 207/2009/EC on the Community trademark (the Regulation), a recast of the Directive 2008/95/EC to approximate the laws of the member states relating to national trademarks (the Directive) and a revision of Regulation 2869/95/EC on the fees payable to OHIM (together, the Reform). The Reform, which should be adopted by Spring 2014, aims at fostering innovation and economic growth by making trademark registration systems all over the European Union more accessible and efficient for businesses in terms of cutting costs, increasing speed and creating greater predictability and better legal security.
