Hogan Lovells has announced its receipt of all Brazilian Bar Association approvals in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil, for the formal launch of its Brazil practice.
The office will be located in Rio de Janeiro and is the law firm’s 44th office. It will operate as a foreign legal consultancy, offering international legal capabilities to Brazilian clients and companies doing business throughout Brazil and Latin America as well as assisting foreign companies entering the Brazilian market.
Claudette Christian, a partner in Hogan Lovells’ finance practice group who has worked extensively in Brazil since the mid-1990s, will serve as office managing partner in Rio de Janeiro. She will be joined by a team of experienced bicultural and bi-nationally qualified lawyers, including those trained in both civil law and common law legal principles, all of whom live and work full-time in Rio de Janeiro.
The team will work closely with other Hogan Lovells offices that have practitioners with Brazil-focused practices, including New York, Miami, London, Madrid, Frankfurt, Munich, Beijing, Paris, Singapore and Washington DC.
The Rio de Janeiro office is said to be an important step in the continued expansion of Hogan Lovells’ Latin American practice, which offers an array of country-specific and cross-border services, particularly for transactions, proceedings, and matters that cross at the intersection of business and government, including antitrust merger reviews, approvals, and anti-competition regulatory proceedings.
