James Drake QC is an experienced advocate specialising in commercial litigation and arbitration, with extensive experience across a number of jurisdictions, principally England and Wales, the US and Australia.
Before coming to London, Drake was with Baker & McKenzie for many years in Sydney and in New York, and was a partner in Owen & Davis, a New York commercial litigation firm since merged with Fulbright & Jaworski. He moved to the London Bar in 1998, joining 7KBW in 1999, and took silk in 2011.
Drake specialises in all areas of commercial law and is acknowledged for his considerable expertise in contentious litigation in court and in international and domestic arbitrations, with particular emphasis on contractual disputes of all kinds including: aircraft and ship sales; distributorship/franchise; insurance and reinsurance; international trade; partnership; and all related interlocutory and jurisdictional issues.
He has appeared in courts and before arbitral tribunals in London, Sydney, New York, BVI, Antigua and Bermuda, and maintains rights of audience in these jurisdictions.
Drake has often been called upon to provide expert evidence as to matters of English law, more often than not for US proceedings.
He is also a qualified accountant, and worked with KPMG prior to his career in the law.
