DAC Beachcroft names new Manchester head

DAC Beachcroft appointed professional negligence partner Ian McConkey as Manchester head from the 1 January following an uncontested election for the position.

McConkey takes over the reigns from real estate partner Robert Moss who stood down after two three-year terms in the role (10 May 2010). Moss has returned to a solely fee-earning role at the firm.

McConkey said he was excited to takeover the role and that his first task would be to sit down with partners and discuss which areas of the business needed development, as such lateral hires were “on the agenda to discuss”, he said.

He said: “The health practice in Manchester has been busy and doing well, so would I certainly be keen to focus on that.” He said the commercial side was also one he would look at growing.

“My focus is to make sure we do as much as we can for our existing clients in the north-west and do more with them. And, in the short-term, to raise our profile within the local market and promote that,” McConkey added.

The firm has lost two partners this week, with employment partner Chris Syder leaving to join Penningtons Manches in Basingstoke and professional indemnity partner Lisa Collins to Berrymans Lace Mawer (BLM) in Dublin.

News that DAC Beachcroft and BLM had each picked up part of Cardiff-headquartered Morgan Cole’s Bristol-based claims team (15 November 2013) emerged at the end of last year, just days before DAC Beachcroft’s LLP accounts revealed it had issued a £10m cash call to the firm’s LLP members while increasing its rolling credit facility to £40m (18 November 2013).

On 1 December it merged with Colombian insurance firm De La Torre & Monroy Abogados Asociados and started trading as DAC Beachcroft Colombia in Bogota (2 December 2013).
