McDermott Will & Emery’s global turnover dropped last year by nearly 1 per cent from $900m to $891.5m (£613.6m).

Despite the slight drop in revenue, profit per equity partner nevertheless rose 3.3 per cent from $1.53m to $1.58m (£1.09m).

Last year, McDermott saw its revenue grow just 2.2 per cent, as the firm’s total number of lawyers fell below 1,000. According to the figures for 2015, lawyer headcount fell further over 2015 to 981.

There are currently 20 partners based in McDermott’s London office, although no promotions came from the firm’s City base in the latest round.

Recent lateral hires include Withers lawyer David Adler and Jean-Marc Tirard from Paris boutique Tirard Naudin, while it lost employment partner Sharon Tan to Mishcon de Reya, as well as Rohan Massey and Heather Sussman to Ropes & Gray.

In London, long-serving office head Hugh Nineham is soon to retire making way for newly-appointed Andrew Vergunst, who is set to lead the City office through the next phase of its development.
