Scott Reid is head of business development, fiduciary, for Appleby Corporate Services (China) Ltd, based in our Shanghai office and working in the Fiduciary & Administration Services group. He joined Appleby in March 2011.
He was previously the chief representative in Shanghai of another offshore law firm.
Prior to that, Reid worked as a registered foreign lawyer in the Hong Kong office of a leading offshore law firm where he advised major international institutional, financial and corporate clients on the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands aspects of fund formation, debt finance, capital raisings and mergers and acquisitions.
Reid gained onshore experience in the Hong Kong office of Mallesons Stephen Jaques, where he advised major international corporations on their investments and joint venture activities in China across a wide range of industries, including the mining, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, financial services and telecommunication markets.
Prior to relocating to Hong Kong, he worked as a graduate lawyer for the Australian law firm Moray & Agnew Solicitors. Following graduation, he served as tipstaff to Justice R McColl JA of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Court of Appeal.
Reid speaks fluent Mandarin and reads and writes Chinese at a business standard. He studied Mandarin for more than 10 years, including undertaking 12 months of intensive Mandarin study at Tsinghua University in Beijing and at the Haerbin Institute of Technology in China’s northern Heilongjiang province in 2001.
