Hill Dickinson opens Monaco base to service yacht team clients

Hill Dickinson is launching an office in Monte Carlo in a bid to boost its yacht and shipping practices.

The firm will open its new office, which is on Avenue Princesse Alice, in March 2013. Partner David Reardon will relocate from London to Monaco to become the firm’s resident partner and will take a team of three staff with him, though the firm plans to recruit more staff for the office in the first six months.

According to the firm, the new office will primarily serve Hill Dickinson’s yacht team clients, many of whom have links to the principality, though the firm also intends to use the base to develop its shipping practice.

Hill Dickinson already has offices in Liverpool, Manchester, London, Chester, Sheffield, Piraeus and Singapore.

In August 2011, The Lawyer reported that fellow shipping specialist Ince & Co had opened an office (11 August 2011) in Monaco after receiving a licence to practise English law in the principality. Like Hill Dickinson, Ince & Co also has links to Piraeus and Singapore.

Lawrence Graham also has an office in Monaco, specialising in private client work, which it acquired from Eversheds in 2003 (7 July 2003).

Earlier this year, Hill Dickinson acquired DLA Piper’s Manchester and Sheffield defendant insurance practice, which DLA Piper was looking to jettison following a strategic review (28 January 2013).
