Eversheds litigation partner Paul Smith has been elected as the firm’s new chairman, beating corporate partner Robert Pitcher in a partnership vote last week.
Smith will take up the role on the 1 May 2014 and hold the position for four years. Current chairman John Heaps did not stand for re-election.
Smith was the client relationship partner for DuPont, which was the first partnering and convergence legal model that Eversheds launched.
He was also fundamental in the pitch process for Tyco, negotiating the terms of the contract using his experience of brokering the previous deal with Dupont (8 January 2007).
Eversheds chief executive Bryan Hughes praised Smith for “his intimate knowledge of the firm, wide international experience and client relationship expertise”.
