Lloyds Banking Group has announced the hire of FSA general counsel Andrew Whittaker as its new group general counsel.
Whittaker will join Lloyds in the second quarter of 2013 and will report to chief risk officer Juan Columbus. The announcement follows the retirement of the bank’s top lawyer Harry Baines earlier this year (30 July 2012).
Lloyds’ general counsel for group legal Kate Cheetham will become deputy group general counsel on 1 January and will act as interim group general counsel until Whittaker starts his new role.
Whittaker has been general counsel to the FSA’s board since April 2000 (6 May 2008).
In a statement Whittaker said: “It’s a big job and there are some obvious challenges and some real opportunities too.
“I’m also very much looking forward to working with Kate Cheetham in her new role as deputy general counsel. I’m confident we’ll work well together and be able to help Lloyds deliver its commitment to be the best bank for customers.”
