General counsel from across the business world will gather in Portugal today for The Lawyer ’s annual General Counsel Strategy Summit, which focuses on the key issues affecting in-house lawyers today.
The summit kicks off tomorrow (Thursday 1 May) with a keynote speech from KPMG’s economics and regulation practice chair Bill Robinson, providing an economic backdrop for the discussions to follow.
The results of The Lawyer ’s latest in-house attitudes survey will also be released, revealing the latest thinking on issues such as legal spend, assessing advisers’ performance and increasing effiencies.
Delegates will hear from EY’s global legal services leader Trevor Faure on the modernisation of the legal industry and debate how to benchmark their departments against their peers.
In six breakout roundtable sessions, topics under discussion include the role of general counsel in internal investigations, IP and competition issues, international litigation and how to run a legal team like a business unit.
Among the 100 general counsel attending are representatives of FTSE 100 companies, in-housers from the energy, finance and insurance industries, as well as sole general counsel looking for a valuable opportunity to interact with their peers.
The conference runs until Friday at the Penha Longa hotel near Lisbon, and will be covered online and via Twitter using #lawyersummit.
