DLA Piper is a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and actively promotes the principles of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption as outlined in the UNGC. As part of its commitment to the UNGC, DLA Piper has published its first public ‘Communication on Progress’, which outlines the actions it has taken over the past year to integrate the 10 principles into the business.
For example during the past year the firm has: become the first global law firm to adopt a human rights policy; grown its pro bono practice to more than 200,000 hours globally; provided training to clients and other organisations on business and human rights; launched its charity partnership with UNICEF focused on protecting the rights of children in justice systems around the world; and announced new global sustainability targets as part of continued efforts to minimise its environmental footprint.
Over the next year, DLA Piper will review and enhance its existing policies and processes to further implement its commitment to respect and support international human rights throughout the firm’s operations. It will also continue to contribute to sector-wide initiatives to encourage the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
