Former Nabarro senior partner Simon Johnston has joined designer outlet manager McArthurGlen Group as deputy chairman after standing down from his leadership role at the City firm last year.
The company, a Nabarro client, claims to be Europe’s leading owner, developer and manager of designer outlets. It has 21 designer outlets in eight countries across Europe and is due to open in Vancouver in late 2014.
Johnston joined Nabarro in 1986 and was its senior partner from 2001 until 2012, spending two years as its US representative partner in New York. He is also on the board of not-for-profit business organisation London First.
He advised McArthurGlen on its establishment in 1993 and on a retail development joint venture with BAA (now Heathrow Airport Holdings) that led to the former’s buyout of BAA in 2002.
McArthurGlen chairman Joey Kaempfer said in a statement: “Simon’s professional experience and wisdom, and his long relationship with our company, will be pivotal in leading McArthurGlen into a new period of growth. This is in terms of not only the amount of retail space that we operate, and the number of centres, but also the McArthurGlen brand itself and the quality of the shopping experience that we offer our nearly 100 million customers annually.”
Johnston added: “This is a very exciting time for me to be joining McArthurGlen. It’s a dynamic business, with a great track record and exceptional group of people.”
