Simmons & Simmons Brussels partner Conor Maguire has quit the firm. A Simmons spokesperson said he had “left by mutual consent”.

Maguire was one of just two partners in Simmons’ small Brussels EU competition practice, although the firm has a further three partners in its domestic Belgian practice. Marco Slotboom replaces Maguire as head of the practice.

Slotboom is Dutch-qualified and also provides a domestic Dutch competition law service to Simmons’ much larger Rotterdam office, although he is permanently based in Brussels.

The Simmons spokesperson added that the firm did not intend to replace Maguire with either a lateral hire or an associate promotion.

Simmons will also lose competition rainmaker Peter Freeman this summer when he takes up his post as deputy head of the Competition Commission.
