Microsoft appoints new head of legal

Microsoft UK has restructured its legal department, promoting commercial lawyer Dervish Tayyip to manage the legal group.

Tayyip replaces Gillian Austin, who left Microsoft at the end of 2006.

Before starting his new role, Tayyip managed the legal support for Microsoft’s services business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Tayyip joined Microsoft in 1999 from West End firm Reid Minty, where he was a partner.

A spokesperson for the company said that Tayyip will focus primarily on Microsoft’s software licensing processes with its clients and partners.
