Sales assistant in a shoe department.
What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Wine being poured over my hand when I couldn’t drink any more at a trainee drinks (what a lightweight).
What time do you usually leave the office?
6.30pm-ish (then I often work on the train home).
What do you do at weekends?
Take my kids to swimming lessons, cook for family and friends.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
M on the Bund, Shanghai.
If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?
An opera singer.
What’s your favourite film?
What was the first record you ever bought?
Super Trouper by Abba.
Who’s your hero and why?
Stephen Sondheim, a musical genius.
What’s the toughest thing about your job?
I’m rising to the challenge of developing Gateley as a leader in media. Watch this space.
What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn?
Some may regard my eight years as an opera and theatre director as a mistake. I’m a better lawyer than a creative, yet believe my background helps me understand businesses in the media sector. Executive producers often find I frame feedback on scripts or content in a sensitive if commercial way when pinpointing compliance risks.
What’s your favourite book?
The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas.
What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on and why?
Working on an ITV documentary about Robbie Williams’ return to Take That. Great to listen to the tracks before they were released and watch Robbie for hours on end.
What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?
I had flu at our recent conference, so would have struggled to enjoy any location that wasn’t a bed with a box of Kleenex.
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?
Keira Knightley, although I could suggest some acting tips.
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order)
I sang at Gary Lineker’s wedding; I’ve been to the pub with Sondheim; I’ve cooked a meal for Tony Blair.
